2011 Queensland Floods
12 January 2011
The 2011 Queensland Floods have caused massive amounts of property damage and it saddens our hearts to say that lives have also been lost. The final damage bill is yet to be determined however we do know this: the effects of the Queensland Floods will long be felt not only by individuals and families but also communities.
Variety the children's charity has a long-standing and strong network of supporters in both metropolitan and regional areas of Queensland and with over 75% of the state affected by floods the demand on our services will increase dramatically in the coming weeks. Initial discussions with our network of supporters, families and special schools have indicated that the floods have destroyed both personal and community equipment, without which children with special needs are unable to continue living the improved quality of life that we have helped create over the years.
Variety has a responsibility to address this urgent need however in order to do so we need your help. In the coming week we will have more information however we do know that there is unquestionably an urgent need for equipment and services in the flood affected areas.
Variety knows first hand that if you help a family, you help a community and so we are dedicated to repairing and restoring the ability for special children in flood affected areas of Queensland to live, laugh and learn.
