Sandbar Cricket : Variety NT and The DTBC 2012
The Sandbar Cricket Match is on again in 2012 on Sunday 19 August.
This annual cricket highlight will be on again in 2012. The beer will be chilled, lunch will be served and the cricket... well..... The cricket will be the side show to a fun day on a temporary piece of Australia out from Cullen Bay.
The kind boat owners from the Darwin Trailer Boat Club(DTBC) will provide transport from the Cullen Bay jetty to the sandbar as usual, so non-boaties need not worry.
"Personally, having only lived in the Territory for 8 years, I'm still just a 'blow-in'. I would like to say in my short time here I have not come across an event quite like this. It screams out what it is to be a Territorian. This event is staged to celebrate one of the lowest tides of the year. Elsewhere this would go unnoticed. But not here in the Territory. This low tide turns the sandbar, albeit temporarily, into an island the size of a small European nation, perfect for beach cricket!, of course!
Why do the DTBC and Variety do this? to raise much needed money for Northern Territory children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. You have to see this to truly appreciate it." Ash - Volunteer Variety NT.
