Alyx

Caring for Kids Program

AlyxFour year old Alyx loves music, dancing, The Wiggles, and spending time outdoors catching butterflies or picking flowers.

A happy, seemingly healthy little girl, it came as a shock to parents Peter and Tracey to learn Alyx has Type 1 Diabetes and needs up to four insulin injections every day just to stay alive.

She must also have her blood glucose levels tested several times a day to minimise dangerous fluctuations that can lead to long term health complications such as blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, limb amputation or coma.

To help make life a little easier, Variety WA was delighted to grant Alyx a surgically inserted insulin pump worth $6,000, allowing better monitoring and administering of insulin, enabling Alyx to worry less about Diabetes and more about just having fun.

“Alyx loves her pump and so do we,” said Tracey.

“Diabetes has a huge impact on our everyday life. But Alyx has her pump attached 24 hours a day and never gives it a second thought - it gives us all more confidence and control”.
