Variety Freedom Program
At just ten years of age, Tayla Tasseff displays determination and courage far beyond her years. In her own words, Tayla shares her story and explains how her Variety grant is helping her overcome Cerebral Palsy, as she works towards her dream of one day walking.
“Wow what a great time I am having! I love my Motomed so much. Before I got this machine I was stuck in my chair not being able to do anything.
Once when I was having physiotherapy, I got to use a machine called the Motomed. It was amazing. I could ride an exercise bike and race against people on different courses around the world in a computer game. I really wanted one to use at home and begged Mum to get me one.
Mum said they are very expensive but she would try her best. When she said that, I was so excited but thought it may be too hard to get one. When Mum told me that Variety had helped to purchase one, I screamed with happiness!
When it arrived I could not believe my eyes. I go on it nearly every day and it feels great. My legs get a good work out and it helps my muscles get better. It makes me puff as well!
The best thing about it is the way it works. It starts moving my legs for me, then when I get them going the machine cuts out and I am cycling on my own. When my legs have a spasm the machine stops and goes backwards to release the spasm so I can cycle again.
I love my Motomed and I am so glad Variety was able to help me get this. I have a dream of one day being able to walk. I know this dream will come true if I keep working hard and have the support of such a caring charity like Variety.
I love my Motomed! Thank you Variety so much!
Love Tayla xx”.
