Samantha is a delightful six year old girl who takes pride in completing tasks independently.  Samantha’s receptive language skills (i.e. ability to understand what another person is saying to her) are good however; her ability to express herself is severely limited due to her diagnosis.

While Samantha is able to speak in three or four word utterances at home, she is extremely difficult to understand, even to the familiar listener.  Outside of the home environment Samantha will use one word utterances often coupled with gestures to get her message across.  At times this results in Samantha’s confidence being affected.  Without the provision of a communication device, Samantha was severely limited in her ability to communicate with others.
