LOV a Surprise Party

With the Easter Picnic and Children’s Christmas Party well entrenched on everyone’s calendar, this year the Ladies of Variety decided to add a third signature event to the Variety@Work program.

And so with enormous support from the Adelaide Convention Centre, “LOV a Surprise Party” happened for the very first time on Monday 1 August.  There were about 800 children with teachers and carers, bursting into the main function room at the Adelaide Convention Centre, ready for a party. And that is exactly what they got!  The room was completely transformed, face painters, hair artists and tattooists stood at the ready to transform the guests, and with party hats, blowers, streamers and bubbles, not to mention brilliant entertainment by the Flaming Sambuccas and TheatreBugs – everyone had a ball.

Extra special thanks go to Alec Gilbert and all his hardworking team at ACC; also to the various local mascots and the Bashers in costume and character, who danced and played with the kids and made the day unique for them; and of course to the small army of volunteers that made the day happen, including the people from SEM (Mark Wauer’ company, from Car MAX) who looked after the traffic management and ensured all the children were safe going on and off the buses.

Most of all, thank you to Vicki Neilson for her vision and inspiration for adding this event, and to all the Ladies of Variety for bringing a smile to the faces of children in need – that smile makes everything worthwhile.
