South Australia’s Most Successful Fundraising Event raises $1.47Million for Children in Need and announces its new sponsor for 2012

Mon Aug 22

While the dust has settled on this year’s tremendously successful SA Variety Bash, the real benefits are still to come, with a huge $1.47Million raised for South Australian children in need.

Now in its 23rd year the leading fundraising event has raised a total of $26.7 Million since its inception.

After eight days on the road, covering a total of 2633 kilometres, 300 people in over 100 vehicles crossed the finish line in Hahndorf over the weekend, having left King William Rd, Hyde Park a week earlier on a journey that took them through some of South Australia’s most iconic destinations.

Bash Chairman, Doug Lehmann is thrilled by the huge amount of much needed funds that have been raised for children in South Australia who are sick, disabled or have special needs.

“It is with heartfelt thanks to our Bashers who have spent the last 12 months fundraising that we can announce we have raised a total of $1.47Million for children who need it most,” he said.

“It’s been a great eight days on the road and we have had the chance to present some much needed equipment to children in need along the way.  It’s always great to see the smiles on the faces of children; it directly shows our Bash participants how their fundraising dollars help in very tangible ways.  It makes all the hard work well worth it.

“Every dollar raised by our dedicated and hard working Bash participants helps to make a difference in the lives of so many children and the Variety Bash is our way of thanking them for their year-long, and in some instances life-long  commitment,” he said.

This year’s Iconic Variety Bash traveled to some of South Australia’s most spectacular and remote places such as Blinman, Innamincka, Arkaroola, Leigh Creek, Peterborough before coming to a finish in Hahndorf with over 2000 people coming meet the cars and celebrate!

The crews of each Bash car have spent the past twelve months fundraising for South Australian children, with money raised through the Variety Bash helping families with the supply of a range of equipment including wheelchairs, leg splints for children with cerebral palsy, vehicles with wheelchair lifters and spring free trampolines for children with autism.

Over the years the money raised has also funded major projects, such as the complete medical fit out and installation of essential medical equipment for a Royal Flying Doctors Aircraft, medical equipment for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Variety Splints Program at Novita Children’s Services and the Variety Children’s Ward at Flinders Medical Centre.

We are very excited to announce that the 2012 Variety Bash will be proudly sponsored by South Australia wine company Tim Adams Wines.
