PCYC

Future Kids Program

PCYCThe PCYC’s mission is to provide low cost, positive supporting, recreational, social and cultural programs in a safe environment primarily for ‘at risk’ and ‘disadvantaged’ youth.

PCYC in Tasmania has over 6,000 members, with Outreach Programs such as the Mobile Activity Units extending to many more thousands of children in city, urban and rural areas.  It is estimated that in 2009, the six mobile activity units in service throughout the State attracted 51,000 attendees.

These MAC units provide equipment and programs to young disadvantaged and at risk children and youth who benefit by being able to participate in programs that they would not normally be able to go to, nor afford to do.  They are able to participate in a safe environment with Recreation Officers, Youth Workers and PCYC Police Staff and assistance with counselling, support and referrals is provided to address personal issues.

Thousands of children from low socio economic areas, those with mental illnesses, special needs and disabilities, those from migrant/refugee backgrounds, Wards of the State, single parent families, those at risk of offending or being offended against, and those from isolated areas benefit from the programs.

Variety has been supporting this Program since 2007 and continues to do so, financially assisting with maintenance, new equipment and running costs to ensure the continuation of the program.
