Variety Annual Awards Dinner
The Variety Annual Awards Dinner is an opportunity for Variety - the children's charity to thank our special supporters for their outstanding contribution to children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
Long time Variety supporter Craig Willis was the MC for the evening which featured appearances by special guests Derryn Hinch (3AW), Johnny Young (Young Talent Time), composer/musician Peter Sullivan as well as a performance from theatre star Silvie Paladino and guest speaker David Parkin. The event was hosted by Variety Chairman Doug Christie.
Awards presented for the night were;
- Heart of Show Business Award (joint recipients) - Johnny Young and Peter Sullivan
- Both Johnny and Peter have had long distinguished careers nurturing young talent and are respected for their work and attitude to providing mentoring, support and a pathway for children to follow their dreams.
- Volunteer of the Year Award (new – joint recipients) - Helen and Ian Cornish
- If you do not know them by name you will certainly recognise Ian and Helen. Whether in the office or in a Variety T Shirt at an event, they have been extraordinary in their voluntary support of Variety over the past 4 years.
- Corporate Partnership Award (new) - Budget Car and Truck Rental
- Over the past 7 or 8 years, be it through assisting with retired buses for our Sunshine Coach Programme, providing vehicles for our road events, or buying tables at all of our key functions, Budget has exemplified the meaning of a genuine Corporate Partner.
- Community Partnership Award (new) - Financial Services Foundation
- Over the past 4 years FSF has partnered with Variety to raise over $600k to support Life Education Mobile Learning Centres together with a number of smaller charities. Michael and Richard are regular attendees at our events and this inaugural award is more than deserved by them.
- Humanitarian Award (new) - Dame Elizabeth Murdoch
- Dame Elizabeth has spent a considerable part of her life raising funds and bringing to attention the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged people including children.
- International Presidential Citation - Derryn Hinch
- Formally presented on behalf of the Variety International President.
- Heart Award for Highest Fundraiser - Martin Stone Car 55
- Long term support Martin Stone and his team raised $120,000 for last year’s Bash. This new Award will provide organisation recognition for those who raise funds as part of our various events.
