Grace speaks of London for children in need.

Variety works to improve the lives of children in need and for grant recipient Grace Bowman, this is very true. Funds provided by Variety in South Australia enabled Grace’s family to modify their bathroom after a horse-riding accident left her wheelchair bound.

Variety was very excited to welcome Grace as our special guest speaker at Variety’s first Ladies Who Lunch event in Melbourne on Wednesday June 20. Recently announced by Equestrian Australia, Grace has been named in the four member Para-Equestrian team nominated to represent Australia at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. Grace discussed her equestrian career so far, what has kept her motivated and her preparation for London 2012.Grace Bowman

When Grace was 12 years old, she was off for a quick ride around the family’s property in Moonta, South Australia when her horse shied and took her under a tree. Grace collided with a low hanging tree branch, dislocating her spine and severing her spinal cord, which resulted in paraplegia and life in a wheelchair.

Grace has always found comfort, strength and inspiration in her relationship with horses and despite her accident, continued to ride.

Horse riding and equestrian has defined Grace Bowman’s young but tragic life. Behind the psychology student’s bubbly, positive exterior is a life inextricably linked for the better and the worse, to horse riding.

We want to thank Grace for her time and wonderful presentation for the first Variety Ladies Who Lunch, to the wonderful products on offer at the event from Intimo, Nutrimetics, iBare and Laura Benini Shoes. This event was also proudly supported by MAIA and Love Notes.

Thank you to all those who attended and supported this wonderful event, support Variety helping children in need.
