The IGA Variety WA Scholarships (previously known as the IGA Variety Brian Treasure Scholarships) recognise the inspirational talents of Western Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
More than 140 scholarships have been presented over the past 14 years, which pays for professional tuition in the fields of the arts, entertainment, sporting and education. Almost $60,000 worth of specialist tuition and musical equipment was granted to 20 scholarship recipients in 2009 alone.
Applications are open to young people who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, and are aged 18 years or younger.
Scholarship funding runs from 1 January to 31 December each year, with the annual nomination round usually opening in October and closing in early December.
Successful IGA Variety WA Scholarship Recipients are announced before Christmas and are invited to attend an official Scholarship Presentation event early the next year.
The Scholarships were founded in 1996 and were originally named in honour of the late Brian Treasure’s contribution to the media and entertainment industry in Western Australia.
