Before you apply
For families of children who are sick, disadvantaged or who have special needs, finding support can be a challenge. Each year, thousands of these children and their families turn to Variety for support when they need it most.
Variety aims to assist families, hospitals and organisations with general healthcare supplies and equipment not available from existing government sources (e.g. NDIS, EnableNSW) and other support services. The granting of funding for equipment, therapy and medical needs is assessed case by case. For more information on our application procedures, refer to our Frequently Asked Questions.
Please ensure you check with your planner (if you have one) before submitting an application to see if your needs can be met via existing government sources (e.g. NDIS, EnableNSW) or other support services.
Variety helps children gain independence and the freedom to be themselves.
A wheelchair, walking aid or a vehicle modification can make an incredible difference for these children and their families.
Having the chance to make the most of an education is the bridge to a brighter future.
Variety helps support children’s education through technology, learning aids, programs and scholarships.
Caring For Kids
Learning that your child needs access to a rare and often expensive piece of medical equipment or service can be a daunting experience.
Variety aims to assist families, hospitals and organisations with general healthcare supplies and equipment not available from existing government sources (e.g. NDIS, EnableNSW) and other support services.
Rare diseases (Smile Program)
The Variety Smile Program offers financial and practical help to children affected by a rare disease or condition. It also facilitates access to information, resources and services for the families and carers of children affected by a rare disease or condition.
Our medical support grants help families purchase minor items and services relating to their child’s healthcare. Grants of $1,000 are available for expenses relating to medical appointments, healthcare items, therapy, respite care, parking and fuel. You can apply for one grant in any 12 month period.
Wigs for Kids
Variety provides wigs for children that have lost their hair due to a medical condition, for example, alopecia. Variety aims to instil a sense of confidence, independence and self-esteem for children who have lost their hair through the provision of specialised wigs.
Schools and organisations
Variety helps schools and organisations with things like all-ability playgrounds, Liberty swings (modified for special needs), and sunshine coaches for transporting children, which can be wheelchair modified.
