In response to your feedback and the current and evolving guidelines due to coronavirus (COVID-19), we have made some decisions about our upcoming events. These decisions haven’t been made lightly, and they’ve been made with the health and wellbeing of our Variety family as our top priority.

This year, the six-day combined Bash and 4WD Adventure event – the Variety Bash Adventure – will take place from Monday 9th November to Saturday 14th November 2020, heading from Bundaberg to Noosa via Nindigully.

The 2020 Variety 4WD Adventure

The 2020 Variety 4WD Adventure will now have a new exciting route and shorter event length in November. This will allow everyone to stay closer to home and with less time away.

This will also coincide with the postponed 2020 Variety Bash, allowing us to reunite as a stronger Variety family on the other side of this.

The 2021 4WD Adventure will take place in November 2021 with the same itinerary that was planned for 2020, the Victorian High Country.

Unfortunately, it has not been surveyed as a result of firstly the bushfires and now the border closures in place due to COVID-19 restrictions. Should the borders open in the next 3 months, the route could still not be surveyed as the High Country is closed for winter and does not open again until the end of October, two weeks prior to the planned event.

We will however have some days on the Variety Bash Adventure with specific 4WD routes, other days will be combined with our mates in Bash cars.

If you are currently registered for the 2020 Variety 4WD Adventure, one of our events team members will be in touch with you in the coming week to check in with you, answer your questions and discuss your plans.

If you are not yet registered, stay tuned and will share details on how you can sign up shortly!

The 2020 Variety Bash

The 2020 Variety Bash will be postponed from August to November, however with a new exciting route, shortened event length, and more of your Variety family. We’ll also be hitting the road with our Variety 4WD Adventurers to make an even bigger impact on kids in need and to reunite as an even stronger Variety family on the other side of this.

But don’t worry, you’ll still get the chance to experience the Birdsville Races and the epic route we had lined up for you – just not this year. The 2021 Variety Bash will have the same itinerary that was planned for 2020, Winton to the Barossa Valley via the Birdsville Races.

We know that times are tough right now, but we still want you to have the chance to Bash with your Variety family after being separated for so long. To help you get there, there will be several relaxations as a one-off for the 2020 event only, such as no age or 2WD restrictions on vehicles and a reduced minimum fundraising amount of $5,000 per vehicle.

If you are currently registered for the 2020 Variety Bash, one of our events team members will be in touch with you in the coming week to check in with you, answer your questions and discuss your plans.

If you are not yet registered, stay tuned and we will share details on how you can sign up shortly!

Thank you for your commitment and dedication to giving ALL Aussie kids a fair go, and we hope that you’re staying safe and well, both physically and mentally, in these challenging times. As one big Variety family, we stand together and will get through this together.

FAQ’s

Q. I’m already registered for the 2020 Bash or 4WD Adventure and I want to do this event in November. Do I have to register again?
A. If you’ve already registered for a 2020 event, you don’t have to register again and we’ll move your entry fee and any fundraising to the November 2020 event. In addition, all cars that participate in the November 2020 event  will have their entry fee waived for either the 2021 Bash or 4WD Adventure as our thanks to you in these challenging times. Please note that vehicle requirements and fundraising minimums will revert to the standard for each 2021 event.

Q. I’m already registered for a 2020 Bash or 4WD Adventure but I can’t do this event in November. What happens to my registration and fundraising?
A. No problem, we’ll move your entry fee and any fundraising to the 2021 Bash or 4WD Adventure. Please note that vehicle requirements and fundraising minimums will revert to the standard for each 2021 event.

Q. With restrictions on events still in place, do you have any suggestions for fundraising so I can reach $5,000?
A. We have put together a number of ideas to keep your fundraising going without running events. You can download this document here. Please contact Melissa McMahon at [email protected] to help tailor a fundraising plan to your particular situation.

Q. Can I bring my family car?
A. Yes, there are no vehicle restrictions however the vehicle requirements must be followed as per the handbook for THIS event which will be released shortly. We also encourage you to theme your car in the spirit of Variety events.

Q. Can I bring my children on the event?
A. Unfortunately no, this event will remain 18+.

Q.
I have registered to bring a Bash car. Can I bring my 4WD/normal car instead?
A. Yes, there are no vehicle restrictions however we will still be travelling on dirt roads and we encourage vehicles to be themed up in the spirit of Variety events!

 Q. I have already fundraised above $5,000. Can I use that towards this event and transfer the rest to next year?
A. Unfortunately no. If you wish to participate in this event all your fundraising will be allocated to this event so we can have the biggest impact possible on kids in need this year. Aussie kids need us now more than ever.

Q. What about my AW?
A. As the vehicle restrictions are now lifted for this event, AW’s become somewhat obsolete as fewer vehicle repairs will be needed.  They can still be registered as an AW for your car however the minimum fundraising for the AW will be $5000. This is still less than if you had a Bash car and an AW on the current Bash by $3000 ($8500+$4500).

Q. Will there be accommodation and amenities available on this trip?
A. Yes, there will be accommodation available in most of the towns we are travelling to. Variety will also be arranging for full amenities at all the campgrounds along the way should you wish to camp.

Q. What if my Bash Car number is the same as a 4WD entry?
A. No problem, Bash Car entries and 4WD entries will have a prefix added to them based on the original event they were signed up to.

Q. What happens to the event if government restrictions are still in place regarding social distancing?
A. Based on current advice, we expect these will be lifted before November. Should that change then we will modify the event plan accordingly.

Q. This is my 5th/10th/15th/20th/25th/30th Bash or 4WD Adventure. Will I still get recognised on this November 2020 event?
A. Yes, absolutely! We will be celebrating all special milestones as usual on our event.

Q. What if I have already paid the full rate entry fee even though there is now an Early Bird rate?
A. Any difference in entry fees will be allocated to your fundraising. For example, if you registered for the Bash and paid the entry fee of $385 you will be credited $186 to your fundraising and receive a tax-deductible donation receipt for this amount if you decide to join us on the 2020 Variety Bash Adventure in November.

Q. If I am registered for both the 4WD Adventure and Variety Bash, will I get a refund on the entry fee for one of the events?
A. No, any difference between what you’ve paid and the early bird entry fee of $199 will be credited towards your fundraising and you’ll receive a tax-deductible donation receipt for this amount.

Q. What if I have already paid my provisions levy?
A. Any difference in provisions levy prices will be allocated towards your fundraising and you’ll receive a tax-deductible donation receipt for this amount. This means you’re even closer to reaching your fundraising goal already – great work!

Q. If I already completed my crew form, do I have to submit another one for this event too?
A. As long as none of your details have changed in the meantime, you won’t need to fill out another crew form. Just let us know which nights you are intending to camp.

Q.
I’ve already booked my accommodation for the Bash – will I be refunded these monies?
A. Whether or not you receive a refund is at the discretion of the individual venue. As we are over 4 months out from the original Bash dates, you will more than likely get a refund or at least be able to transfer the date of your booking for the 2021 event.

Q. Do I continue to use my Bash online fundraising page?
A. Yes, please continue to use your current fundraising page.
