Thomas Robbin's Success Through Variety Heart Scholarships
We’d like to congratulate our sports scholarship star, Thomas Robins, on reaching his final year Variety Heart Scholarship! We provide Variety Heart Scholarships to kids who have an existing talent, but need some extra help to reach their full potential due to financial hardship, chronic illness or disability. Thomas showed exceptional talent in sports so we granted him a scholarship to help him follow his dream of competing in state competitions.
Thomas lives with Cerebral Palsy and Spastic Diplegia. After having to undergo multiple surgeries on his hips and legs, over time this has resulted in nerve damage. This year in particular has been very difficult for Thomas, as living with disabilities has made him the target of bullying by his school peers.
Despite all this, Thomas has completely completely blown us away with his dedication and drive to succeed at sports. He has excelled at playing Wheelchair Basketball and has now also started Para Ice Hockey. His sporting scholarship was a huge help to his family as it covered his tournament and training sessions. This was also made possible by the incredible generosity of his sponsors from Keystone Private who raise funds as part of the Variety Bash.
Thomas has been receiving a Variety Heart Scholarship for the past three years. Now at 17-years-old, Thomas has reached his final year of the scholarship. We were proud to be able to present this to him and his mum in person when they visited us at our Variety head office in Bunya, Queensland. Thomas’s mum has now removed him from the school, and since has seen Thomas’s confidence finally start to flourish again. Thomas is also on the look out to start some studies and a part time job which he is incredibly excited for. We can’t wait to see what else the future has in store for this determined young man.
