Journey Breakdown

The Challenge is heading west, far west! Starting in Esperance, Western Australia and following the Great Australian Bight around to Streaky Bay will certainly offer amazing views, challenging sand and even the possibility of a whale or two.

This route is certainly an expedition most would only ever dream of undertaking and the 2018 Challenge will offer the opportunity to do it in style with gourmet catering, entertainment, comforts of the hot showers, 3 nights’ accommodation and some very special hospitality from the West Coast towns of Smoky Bay and Streaky. This is  glamping!

Day 1: Starting from Esperance driving along some of the most pristine beaches in Australia, we will be stopping at the beautiful Rose Bay for lunch. Following lunch, we will return to Esperance for another night in at our luxury accommodation.

Day 2: Departing Esperance we will head to the famous Lucky Bay for another of RAD2’s famous morning teas and then along some more amazing beaches to the iconic Condingup Tavern for lunch. We will have a short afternoon run to play in the sand, returning back to Condingup Community Centre for our first camp setup at their excellent facility.

Day 3: No pack up (yes two nights in one spot!) We head to Israelite Bay for another sensational CAT lunch with time to take in the scenery and history that engulfs this beautiful region and then back to Condingup for dinner.

Day 4: Finally we get back on track and head bush to Balledonia and then onto Madura overlooking the famous Nullarbor Escarpment for night 4 setup, dinner and sunset drinks.

Day 5: Starts us back on our original route through to the finishline in Streaky Bay. I promise you that you won’t be disappointed, plenty of great tracks, great food, great wine with great people.

Day 6: Skirting the very edge of the Bight we will reach the Head of the Bight! A gourmet lunch and then onto a campsite at Cheetima Beach to set us up for a run to the finish.

Day 7: More sand dunes and beaches will take entrants through to Fowlers Bay and onto Smoky Bay where the locals will spoil entrants with West Coast hospitality. Tonight’s dinner will be on the beach and a party, “The Variety Way,” late into the night with great entertainment.

Day 8: Smoky Bay community have one more trick up their sleeve in the morning before we traverse the cliffs on our way to Streaky Bay were we will celebrate the contribution and fundraising result of the 2018 Variety SA 4WD Challenge – Across the Great Australian Bight!
