Over 200 people joined Variety Tasmania in the beautiful surrounds of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens on the 22nd February 2019 for an exquisite, progressive gin tasting experience, whilst supporting Tasmanian children in need.

The gin cocktails from Spring Bay Distillery, McHenry Distillery and Forty Spotted Gin proved so popular, many of our guests went back for seconds.

Spring Bay Distillery

The distinctive flavours of Spring Bay Distillery Gins are due to the soft sweet Tasmanian water, influenced by the sea mists from Spring Bay and fresh Tasmanian rainwater, used in the distilling process. The cocktail Spring Bay Distillery chose for the evening was a delicious Spring Bay Red Queen:

Spring Bay Red Queen

45ml Spring Bay Gin, 75ml Cranberry Juice, 15ml Lemon juice and 15ml Ashbolts Elderflower Concentrate

Shake over ice and strain into chilled martini glass, garnish with Tasmanian blueberries or other seasonal fruit.

McHenry Distillery

After watching a traditional Holy Lion Dance, representing bravery and righteousness as well as amiability, performed by the Tasmanian Chinese Buddhist Academy of Australia, our guests tasted a delicious McHenry Distillery Sloe Gin cocktail, made with Sloe berries foraged from the hedge rows around Tasmania. The cocktail for the evening was a Sloe Royal – 30ml of McHenry Sloe Gin and top up with dry Tassie sparkling wine. Simple but delicious, and perfect for warm summer evenings!

Forty Spotted Gin

Our final gin cocktail for the evening was a pink summer cocktail by Forty Spotted Gin. This is a gin for the inquisitive and creative at heart, designed to excite the curious drinker. Clean, fresh and excitingly complex, Forty Spotted uses local pepperberry as a key botanical.

Forty Spotted Summer Bramble

45ml Forty Spotted Summer Gin, 15ml Lime Juice, 15ml Simple Syrup, a squirt of homemade Raspberry and Chilli syrup (Fresh raspberries, a small red chili, sugar and boiling water) and blueberries to Garnish

Stir down Forty Spotted, lime juice and simple syrup on ice.

Strain and pour into rocks glass over crushed ice

Add a splash of the raspberry and chili syrup and let it bleed through the ice

Add blueberries to garnish
