Registrations for the 2023 Variety Bash are now open!
The 2023 Variety Bash will start Friday 8 to Saturday 16 September 2023. Kicking off in Merredin and finishing on the coast in beautiful Denham.
We’re talkin’ about a ‘carnival on wheels’, adrenaline-pumping off-the-map tracks, all to raise essential funds for WA kids living with sickness, disadvantage and disability.
You’ll experience some of WA’s most beautiful and remote places with an experienced crew, private caterers and the opportunity to see the impact of your fundraising along the way.
The Variety Bash is an epic event that has run for a fair few decades. Teams and communities come together to take part in our 8 day event in their whacky wagons, taking off across WA with multiple stops in between, visiting local communities and schools, hand delivering Variety Grants.
This WA event is one for the events calendar every year. There really isn’t anything quite like it! The camaraderie and devotion each basher has speaks for itself hence why we see so many regular participants returning to the event year after year.
This WA fundraiser helps kids receive a fair go.

It’s all for a good cause
Variety – the Children’s Charity is all about giving a fair go to WA kids who are sick, disadvantaged or living with disability.
By providing vital and practical equipment, programs and experiences, we help children in need to overcome the obstacles they face to live life to the fullest and help ‘kids be kids.’ Our work allows children to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, increase self-esteem and achieve independence.
This can range from an iPad and specialist ‘apps’ to help children living with autism, to vehicle modifications for children with physical disability to travel safely in the family car, modified bicycles, wheelchairs, scholarships, camps and more!

Variety Bash FAQs
What is the Variety Bash
The Variety Bash is not a race or a rally, but a fun and social event, or in the words of the originator Dick Smith, ‘A drive in the outback with a few mates’. The WA Variety Bash runs for 8 days and the route and destination change each year. The full route is announced at a launch event, shortly after the finalisation of the previous Variety Bash. The Variety Bash has an exemplary safety record. All cars are tracked during the day by officials, who are in contact via HF radio and satellite phone with a central command post. The Variety Bash has its own team of paramedics and has full contact with hospitals, motor workshops and local authorities. In addition, all cars are checked over prior to the event, and a team of Mobile Workshop mechanics attend the event to assist entrants with car problems.
