Neville was drawn to supporting Variety 13 years ago when he saw a trail of Bash cars travelling down Beaconsfield Parade. He knew right then and there that he had to be involved! So here he is, 11 bashes later and still keen as mustard.
Neville has had two Bash cars over the years – both Mercedes Benz. He now drives Car 280 or “Benzey” as it is affectionately known (just check out those custom numberplates!) with Neville as the skipper, aka “Popeye”, and Glenn Lowther as the mechanic aka “Brutus”.
Neville and Glenn man a number of intersections during the annual Top Hat appeal each year, and they also have a few sponsors who are more than happy to give them a donation in exchange for displaying their business logo on the “Spinach-mobile”.
Neville and Glenn really enjoy the camaraderie that develops between the “Bashers”. The whole Variety Bash experience is very much an important part of their lives.
Did you know?
Neville’s car is called the “Spinach-mobile” after his Popeye the Sailor Man theme!
Giving Back
Neville also enjoys helping out at thee Children’s Christmas Party each year in a voluntary capacity. He says that seeing the happy faces of the kids is really moving.
Neville raises funds in a variety of ways. Be it through regular sausage sizzles at their local IGA and a stall at the Warrandyte Market where Neville and his wife Lyn, sell Mandalas and Doodledangles for children and adults to colour – often with the help of their grandson Charlie.
