The Crocodile Hunters
1984 Landcruiser
The Croc Hunters, led by Car Captain “Uncle Den” (Dennis Fuller), in a 1984 Toyota Landcruiser SI 1748, were inspired by Steve Irwin and his endeavour to preserve Australia’s wildlife. Uncle Den says “I started doing the TasBash in 1997 because it looked like a great cause and great fun!”.
Uncle Den completed his 20th TasBash in 2018, having raised over $150 000 over the past two decades for Tasmanian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. He was joined in the car by his niece from New Zealand, Amanda Burleigh (AKA Kiwi Croc), Brooklyn Hazelwood (2018’s TasBash’s youngest participant), and Sandra Oakley. Uncle Den says, “I’m very proud to be part of the TasBash family, I’ve made many special friendships throughout this journey”. His late wife Phyllis was also part of the TasBash family, having been part of the Flinstones and the Champettes in her day. Uncle Den says, “Now that the TasBash event rules have changed it opens the door for just about anyone to join the TasBash family”.
