Fundraising
The Bash is about more than just a road trip with 300 mates, it’s about giving kids a fair go
Entrants, fondly known as Bashers, must fundraise or donate a minimum of $8,500 per car for Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT to enter the Variety B to B Bash 2020. This is for an entry of one car and up to four (4) people.
There is currently an offer open to ‘Rookie Cars’ (i.e. a car with ALL Rookie entrants) to donate half the normal donation amount ($4,250) for their first year of Bashing.
Minimum Donation amounts should be paid into Variety two weeks prior to the start of the Bash.
A $500 non-refundable donation is required on entry to secure your place.
All money raised by you through sponsorship, functions, raffles, auctions etc., must be given to and officially receipted by Variety. Sponsors should be aware that their donations will directly assist kids and emphasise that you and your team are meeting the cost of preparing and running your vehicle and other related expenses.
HOW YOUR FUNDRAISING HELPS
When you donate your money or time, you want to make sure the people who need it most are receiving it. At Variety we believe all kids deserve a fair go. We do this in four key ways Grants, Scholarships, Programs, & Kids Experiences helping kids 0-18 who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.
Throughout the Bash you will experience first hand the impact the grants can make on the lives of kids and communities in need.
Tool-Kit
Here are a selection of tools you can use to help you on your fundraising journey. We have a range of collateral that you are welcome to utilise including pull up banners, Variety signage, Bash posters, T-shirts, stickers and balloons to help assist you in your fundraising efforts. Tips to get started
Here are some tips to get you started, to discuss your fundraising don’t hesitate to contact the Bash office on 02 9819 1016.
Get informed about Variety and our work. The more you know the easier you’ll find it to ask for support.
Variety believes all kids deserve a fair go so we support kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to reach their full potential. Variety’s work allows kids to gain mobility and freedom, to get out and about in the community, be able to communicate, achieve independence and increase self-esteem.
Here are just some ways your fundraising can help a child in need:
$1,200 can help provide nutritional feeds to a child who is struggling to maintain the required level of nutrition orally.
$2,000 can go towards the cost of sensory equipment to help develop a child’s communication and motor skills.
$3,500 can help supply a wig to a child who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.
$9,000 can help provide a manual wheelchair to give a child greater mobility.
$10,000 can go towards the cost of wheelchair vehicle modifications to a family car allowing them to safely transport a child with greater ease.
$15,000 can help contribute to playground equipment to a school or organisation, allowing kids to harness their energy and have some fun
Use of Variety’s brand
Logo – It’s important to remember that your fundraising event is raising funds for Variety – the Children’s Charity, and is not a Variety event, all event flyers must make this clear. Recommended wording for events is ‘Proudly supporting Variety – the Children’s Charity.’ Your Variety contact can provide you with copies of the logo to use at your events. The logo cannot be altered in any way.
Wording – The charity’s full name, Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT, must be used in its whole phrase for headings. The charity may be referred to as Variety. Variety – the Children’s Charity is not to be referred to as the Variety Club or any other name in any communications.
Colours – Red is our primary colour, and white and black are our secondary colours. In the Motoring Fundraising Guide you will find the details of the specific red we use.
Marketing Materials Approval – Any marketing materials must be submitted to Variety for approval by the marketing team. Approval is given within a business day in most cases and we’re happy to provide you with ideas too!

There are many different fundraising events that you could organise to reach your fundraising goal, here are a few ideas: • Trivia Night • Long Lunch • Golf Day • Cocktail Party • Movie Night • Car Boot Sale • Karaoke Night • Car wash • Morning tea • Dinner party
When organising your fundraising event, think about: • Venue, catering and beverages • Sponsors • Budget • Ticket price • Entertainment/theme • Timing • Promotion • Ticket sales method • Fundraising strategy
Think about how you can make your event different with themes and activities. Contact friends and/or businesses to see if they can donate items for you to use. Don’t forget when you’re holding an event there are lots of other creative ways to make additional funds. Encourage people to bribe you for trivia answers, make up movie snack bags for people to purchase, golfers can give a kickback to skip a hole.
Many companies have Employee Matched Funding programs which match some/all of an employee’s charity fundraising efforts. Ask your HR department or manager, and even if they don’t actually have a program they may make a donation to support your participation in the Bash.
Variety can help with any information they require or with any paperwork. We can also provide a certificate, tax deductible receipt and thank them directly if you let us know.
Even without a matched funding program, your workplace can still support you. See if you can hold a fundraiser at work such as a bake sale, casual day, or a BBQ.
Workplace Giving allows employees to make regular donations to a deductible gift recipient such as Variety. Donations are deducted from employees’ salaries before tax is applied (hence reducing their taxable income). They are then entitled to an automatic tax deduction, whilst Variety gets the full amount donated. Contact us if you would like our Corporate Partnerships Manager to come with you to talk to your employer or company about this opportunity.
When kicking off your fundraising efforts, it’s best to start with those who are closest to you, like your family and close friends, are most likely to be your biggest supporters and advocates. It’s also a good idea to kick-start your own fundraising by donating to yourself. It helps set the tone and show others that you’re committed to the cause.
Social Media
Social media is a great way to reach as many as possible. Always add an image, as these tend to get more engagement than those with only text. If you feel comfortable on camera, a video does even better.
Include a link to your fundraising page – sounds like a no-brainer but can be easy to forget.
Ask people to share, the more people who see it the better!
Be thankful – make sure you thank your supporters who donate by tagging them. This not only shows your gratitude, but helps spread your fundraising efforts further!
Please use our hashtag’s #varietybash #yagottadoit and be sure to tag us on Facebook @btob.bash or Instagram @variety_bash
Emails
So where to start? The more personal you can get, the better. Start by emailing or calling a few close family members or friends, and once there are a few donations in your tally then go out to your wider network. There is a sample in the confirmation email you received upon registering for the Variety B to B Bash.
We know it can be daunting to ask people to support you. You don’t want to pester or annoy people and may even feel anxious about it.
Don’t worry. You’re actually demonstrating that you are compassionate and caring and are doing something to help those less fortunate than you.
Those who want to help you will and those who don’t want to won’t. It’s really as cut and dried as that. Nobody will think less of you – they probably have other charitable commitments they already support instead. But Australians are good-natured and you’ll be surprised how generous they can be.
If you’re having any difficulties reaching your fundraising goal, just get in touch with the Variety Bash team and we’d be happy to help you.
