The Bash is our Variety NT icon. It has always been our biggest fundraiser and critical to our ability to continue supporting Territory kids. For those outside of Variety it may look like a week of pure celebration each August/September but we know it is so much more.

The hard work is done every day by people who care enough for children in need across the NT. Those who love to have fun and share the Variety message across the Top End and to the most remote communities across Australia.

Bashes date back to 1985 when adventurer Dick Smith decided to run a charity event which involved a few of his mates ‘bashing’ around the outback. The object of the exercise was for the ‘bashers’ to bribe and cheat their way around the route. It not only proved to be heaps of fun but also raised a lot of month. Each State and Territory has taken on the Bash as a major fundraiser and it’s popularity continues to this day.

The Bash brings economic benefit to small remote communities and mech cheer to children through school visits.

The NT Bash family have contributed in many ways to the sustainability of our organisation 3 decades. Bash devotees have not only fundraised year after year for NT kids, but many have volunteered to support our fundraising event calendar and held Board and Committee positions voluntarily to help carry the load.
