Individual

Thank you for your interest in applying for a Variety Victoria grant.

Individual applications are for a single child who is sick, disadvantaged or has special needs, requiring funding for equipment.

We encourage families to seek alternative sources of funding before approaching Variety. Requests for funding must be submitted via the application form available on Variety’s website

The Variety Victoria Grants Committee meets at the conclusion of each funding round and reviews applications against set guidelines, including but not limited to;

  • Grants are available to individual seeking full or gap funding for equipment.
  • Applications for communication devices must have completed a successful trial prior to submitting an application.
  • Applications will only be considered for children aged up to 17 and 6 months years (applications must be received and finalised before their eighteenth birthday).
  • Applicants must reside in Victoria and be an Australian resident or have a permanent residents visa.
  • Variety Victoria does not give cash donations. We only fund the purchase of equipment and tangible items.
  • Variety Victoria will not approve applications where alternative funding sources are available. This includes NDIS or SWEP (http://swep.bhs.org.au/ ) eligible items. Proof of any unsuccessful alternative funding should be included in your application.
  • Variety Victoria will consider gap funding, once you have proof of successful funding.
  • Applications for assistance dogs will only be considered if the dog is pre-approved by an official assistance dog provider
  • Funding cannot approve retrospectively (if you have already purchased equipment).
  • Applications will not be funded if the child has received funding from Variety within the past 18 months, unless exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated or the funding was from the Variety VICKIDS Scholarship, Variety SMILE or Princess Charlotte Alopecia Programs.
  • The Grants Committee will assess each grant thoroughly. Additional information may be required and iIn this instance Variety will contact you or your referees.
  • The deliberation process may take 1-2 months from the close of the funding round. Every submitted application will receive written confirmation of the outcome of their application at this time.

Please make sure the following documents are submitted along with your application:

  • Financial income documentation e.g. Payslips, Centrelink income statement
  • 3 quotes where possible (less than 3 months old)
  • State-wide Equipment Program (SWEP) documentation – if applicable
  • Two supporting letters from relevant professionals less than 3 months old (at least one from a health care provider)

What we will fund:

Please note these items are examples and funding is not limited to those listed below.

Freedom – provides funding for mobility equipment

  • Wheelchairs
  • Standing frames
  • Postural splints
  • Shower/bath/Toilet chairs
  • Walkers
  • Cochlear ear implants
  • Assistance dogs. Applications for assistance dogs will only be considered if the dog is pre-approved by an official assistance dog provider

Future – provides children with intellectual or physical disabilities with access to equipment

  • iPads (for a child’s communication needs only)
  • Laptops (in limited situations)
  • Specialised software
  • Educational items
  • Other communication devices
  • DynaVox
  • Sports Wheelchairs
  • Scholarships

Caring – helps parents care for their seriously ill children at home

  • Nebulisers
  • Insulin pumps
  • Ventilators
  • Oxygen Pumps
  • Seizure Alarm & Mats
  • Specialised Beds/mattresses

 

What we won’t fund:

  • Capital Works e.g. Vehicle and home modifications, anything affixed to a building
  • Medical and health consultations, including therapy sessions
  • Spas/swimming pools
  • Communication devices for recreational use
  • School fees/salaries/wages
  • Ongoing funding, such as repairs or maintenance of equipment
  • Salaries or administration expenses
  • Carer expenses
  • Respite
  • Research, therapy or rehabilitation services
  • Vehicles or vehicle modifications for individuals/families
  • Travel expenses
  • Consumables

Successful applications require funds be spent within three months of the approval date. Upon expiration, the grant will lapse and a new application will need to be submitted.

Variety Victoria is unable to see the details of your application while in progress and can only view once it is submitted.

Organisation

Thank you for your interest in applying for a Variety Victoria grant.

Organisations are encouraged to apply for funding for equipment or a program if they service children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

Requests for funding must be submitted via the application form available on Variety’s website.

The Variety Victoria Grants Committee meets at the conclusion of each funding round and reviews applications against set guidelines, including but not limited to:

  • Organisations must be a registered business and be able to provide an ABN/ACN number upon request.
  • Applications can be seeking full or partial funding for equipment.
  • Where partial funding is sought, applications need to have already secured remaining funds required for the equipment/project.
  • Applications will only be considered for organisations who cater for children aged 0 – 17 years who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
  • Variety Victoria does not give cash donations – we only fund the purchase of equipment and tangible items.
  • Funding cannot approve retrospectively (if you have already purchased equipment).
  • Variety Victoria does not fund research, therapy or rehabilitation services
  • Applications will not be funded if the organisation has received funding from Variety within the past 18 months, unless exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated.
  • The Grants Committee will assess each grant thoroughly. Additional information may be required and in this instance Variety will contact you.

  • 3 quotes where possible (less than 3 months old) or a proposed budget

Variety Future Program

The Variety Future Program provides children with intellectual or physical disability access to experiences eg Adaptive Sports Programs, Technology, Learning Aids.

Variety Goanna Adventure Camp

Goanna Park Adventure Camp is a unique experience offered by Variety Northern Territory with its core mission being to challenge teenagers with mild physical or mental disabilities to overcome barriers with an aim to increase self-esteem and confidence. Two camps are run back to back each year in June/July. The camp is funded by Variety. For further information please contact the Variety Grants Coordinator.

Variety Freedom Program

The Variety Freedom Program provides funding for mobility equipment.

Sunshine Coach

Variety will consider funding coaches to organisations and schools who demonstrate a need and financial hardship and are unable to fund the total purchase price in their own right.

Recommended funding for a Sunshine Coach is:

  • One third applicant
  • One third Variety
  • One third sponsor (generally sourced by the applicant)

When calculating the total cost of the Sunshine Coach it is important to bear in mind costs such as signage and modifications. These costs are available from the Variety Grants Coordinator.

Liberty Swing / Wheelchair Carousel

Variety will consider funding Liberty Swing applications from specialist schools only. For public spaces e.g. parks Variety will only consider funding a Wheelchair Carousel.

Recommended funding for a Liberty Swing / Wheelchair Carousel is:

  • One third applicant
  • One third Variety
  • One third sponsor (generally sourced by the applicant)

The price of a Liberty Swing is approximately $23,560; inclusive of signage and delivery.

The price of a Wheelchair Carousel is approximately $29,000 inclusive of signage and delivery.

Installation must include soft flooring and fencing which falls under the responsibility of the organisation requesting the Liberty Swing. Installation fees are not included above and would differ based on the supplier you choose to go with.

Variety Caring for Kids

The Variety Caring for Kids Program supports children’s health services including hospitals and specialised medical equipment and services.

What we won’t fund:

  • Medical and health consultations
  • Communication devices for recreational use
  • School fees/salaries/wages
