Ride for Hope: Variety Adventure Ride Aims to Raise $150,000 for Kids in Need

September 3, 2025 by nswadmin

From rugged dirt trails to remote mountain tracks, the 2025 Variety Adventure Ride will take 30 motorbike riders on a six-day journey through some of New South Wales’ most breathtaking and challenging terrain – all while raising vital funds to support children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

Departing Singleton on Sunday 14 September, the route will take riders off incredible beaten tracks through Lithgow, Bathurst, Gulgong, Tamworth and Gloucester, before returning to Singleton on Friday 19 September.

Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT CEO, Tony Warner, is calling on the wider community to support the riders with donations that will help to reach the event’s $150,000 fundraising goal.

“This isn’t just a ride – it’s a chance to make a genuine impact in the lives of kids and families in need,” he said.

“Whether you’re on the bike or supporting the riders from home, every dollar raised helps us to deliver grants, programs and events to ensure all children have the same opportunities in life, regardless of their circumstances.”

As part of the journey, $15,000 in grants will be delivered to three schools along the route – Lithgow Public School, Hargraves Public School and Gulgong Public School.

Riders will stop at the schools to hand over the grants for playground equipment and educational resources, meet the students, and see firsthand how their fundraising is helping to change lives.

“Visiting the schools is the most emotional part of the ride,” said Darren King, the Taree local who will complete his 3rd ride this year.

“You come for the adventure, but what stays with you is the reason behind it. You realise how much your effort matters when you meet the kids and see the smiles. It’s unforgettable.”

Mr Warner said the event is not a race, and it’s not about speed.

“It’s about camaraderie, challenge, and purpose. Riders are supported by a full safety, mechanical and logistics crew, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the experience and the cause,” he said.

The 2025 Variety Adventure Ride is once again sponsored by Pickles.

Nick Johnson, General Manager, Salvage, Pickles, says they are proud to stand alongside Variety in helping kids overcome barriers and access the opportunities they deserve.

“Having taken part in the Adventure Ride for many years, I’ve seen first-hand how much it means to the schools, the families, and the young people we meet along the way. The Ride isn’t just about the journey on two wheels – it’s about the smiles on kids’ faces when new playground or learning equipment arrives, and the sense of community that builds around it,” he said.

“Supporting an event that combines challenge, camaraderie, and community impact reflects the values we hold at Pickles, and I’m honoured to be riding again in Variety’s 50th anniversary year.”

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Variety in Australia with more than 2 million children and their families supported across the country.
