Piper's Story

Variety Heart Scholarship recipient Piper, 17, may be young but she knows exactly what she wants to do for the rest of her days – make people happy with her music.

And she is certainly on track to do just that with her talents garnering praise across the industry. In recent years, Piper has supported some of Australia’s best loved artists including Kasey Chambers, Diesel, Josh Pyke, The Black Sorrows, The Badloves, Thirsty Merc, Glenn Shorrock, Richard Clapton, Karise Eden & James Morrison.

The self-taught singer, guitarist and songwriter from Lake Macquarie, NSW, says music has always been a huge part of her life.

“My mum sings all around the house and I learnt to sing from her. We call Dad ‘Happy Feet’ because he can’t sing but he can dance. Dad also taught me my first chords on the guitar,” she said.

“Mum and Dad have always been so incredibly supportive and have helped me to achieve so much. All the other musicians I’ve met along the way have treated me with maturity and respect, no matter their age or mine, which has helped me to stay humble and thankful of where I am.”

A career highlight came in September 2020 when Piper released her debut EP called ‘September.” The EP went to #1 on the Alternative Album – iTunes Chart and #2 on the All Genre Album – iTunes Chart.

“It’s been amazing to see my EP reach as many people as it has already. I’m really grateful that it has brought people joy and struck their emotions also. I am so proud of this and cannot wait to release more music and grow as an artist.”

“There is always so much to learn, and to have ‘September’ as my debut, I feel like I am ready to take on the world and share my sounds everywhere I go!”

When asked what keeps her motivated, Piper wisely noted that “every day is a new day, with new opportunities ahead”. Piper has consistently shown that she always wants to push on and showcase her love of music to the audience, and the audience have responded.
