Staff from Variety – the Children’s Charity, accompanied by four Miss World contestants, visited Nepean school to surprise them with a $3000 cheque to fund a special all abilities wheelchair carousel for their playground.

Staff and students were expecting a visit but had no idea of their special guests or the surprise that awaited them. Variety – the Children’s Charity have previously provided the school with a Sunshine Coach, to help get kids out and about, musical instruments and a wheelchair swing. The final piece of funding for their new playground equipment will mean students with all abilities will be able to take part in playtime.

Three students – Hayley, Jackson and Nathan – who Variety have previously been assisted with equipment are also students at the school.

Miss World contestants fundraise to assist children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs through Variety and will be on hand to assist with the surprise and see their fundraising dollars at work.

Around half of the students from the Nepean School have a significant form of Cerebral Palsy, others Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, Ag, autism and a wide range of often rare syndromes and genetic disorders. Some of the student are the only living person in the world with their type of disability or are children who have outlived any other child with the same condition. They are all amazing and inspirational young people and bring a great sense of love and joy into the world.
