Toy Bank Background:
Toy Bank has been a key Variety WA event for nearly 30 years. Originally founded in 1994 by the late Holly Wood. Holly was the original Chair of the Toy Bank Committee and worked as a social columnist for the Sunday Times. He was involved in many charitable works and won several awards for his community contributions throughout his life.
The legacy of Holly is inextricably linked to Toy Bank through its support of women’s shelters and children leaving domestic violence situations. Holly had a very difficult childhood, living in orphanages and foster homes before being adopted at 15. One of the motivations for starting Toy Bank was his memory of never being able to have toys of his own. He had one small box of toy soldiers that was special to him and when it was taken from him it was never given back. Holly’s toy soldier can still be seen in the Toy Bank logo as a lasting reminder of what a small toy can mean to a child who has lost everything.
