Wigs

Variety provides wigs to kids who have a medical condition which causes hair loss, either permanently or non-permanently. These conditions include, but aren’t limited to, alopecia (areata, totalis and universalis) and cancer.

Losing your hair has a huge impact on a person psychologically, particularly as a child or teenager when it’s a challenge for anybody to feel as though they ‘fit in’. Variety aims to instil a sense of confidence, independence and self-esteem for kids who have lost their hair by granting specialised wigs.

Specialised wigs can be prohibitively expensive for many families and last only 2-3 years depending on the type and use of the wig, and this is where Variety helps.

Variety grants a range of customised wigs. The decision about which type is most suitable is dependent on your condition and situation; we’d recommend getting advice from your specialist. We grant up to $6000 towards each wig.

As wigs only last several years, you may reapply for a new wig provided your last application approval was more than 2 years ago.
